Hafeez not interested in Chief Selector role, PCB to consider other options

Former Pakistan captain, Mohammad Hafeez, has shown no interest in taking on the role of Chief Selector of the national cricket team.

After the departure of Haroon Rasheed from the position, the new management committee under the leadership of Zaka Asharaf is actively searching for a suitable candidate to fill the important role.

Discussions were held with Hafeez in the past few days regarding the position of Chief Selector. However, the former cricketer has expressed his desire to work at the grassroots level instead, focusing on nurturing young talent and contributing to the development of cricket from the ground up.

Another prominent former cricketer, Rashid Latif, has declined any position in PCB at this time, citing prior engagements and commitments that prevent him from taking on the role.

The name of former Pakistan wicket-keeper, Moin Khan, was also presented to the board officials as a potential candidate for Chief Selector by individuals close to him, although the chairman has not met him yet.

However, sources reveal that Moin is reluctant to be associated with such cricket affairs due to concerns for his son Azam Khan's career. He fears that his son's performance may come under unnecessary pressure if he takes up the position.

As the Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023 are on the horizon, the search for a suitable Chief Selector has become crucial. Some former cricketers are apprehensive about taking up the role, fearing that they may face criticism if the team's performance does not meet expectations.

The authorities are now seeking a star cricketer with a strong understanding of modern cricket to fill the position of Chief Selector. Former Pakistan captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, may assume an important responsibility in the near future.

However, the decision-making process has been delayed due to Zaka Ashraf's departure to South Africa for ICC meetings. It is expected that he will meet with some former star cricketers in the next few days to discuss the position and gauge their interest and availability before a final decision is made.
