PCB unlikely to include more PSL teams till tenth edition

Image
[ad_1] The former Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee, Najam Sethi, proposed to add two new teams to the Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, before this could be implemented, he had to resign from his position. These days, rumors are circulating once again that several individuals are being presented as potential new team owners in the PSL, even though no decision has been finalized yet. According to sources, currently, there is no possibility of increasing the number of teams. Zaka Ashraf is reluctant to make any decision without consulting with the existing franchises. According to the agreement, no teams can be added to the PSL for ten years. If such a decision is made and challenged by the franchises in court, the board's position will be weakened. Due to a busy schedule, Ashraf has not been able to meet any franchise owners. He wants to convene a governing council meeting in the coming days to discuss the issues with team owners and r

[ad_1] View of the PCB headquarters in Lahore. — AFP/File The federal government Friday extended the tenure of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s interim Management Committee. The committee's tenure was set to expire on April 21 (today).   A summary sent to the federal government by the Inter-Provincial Coordination Division recommended an extension for two to four weeks. In December last year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif constituted a Management Committee to manage the affairs of the PCB with full executive powers. The committee's aim was also to revive the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) 2014 Constitution. Najam Sethi , the former PCB chairman, was named the head of the committee.  It must be noted that Pakistan cricket chief Raja was sacked just days after the national team suffered a humiliating first-ever 3-0 home series whitewash at the hands of England, according to a government notice. But a change had been on the cards since April when Imran Khan — a forme

The prime minister is patron of the cricket board in Pakistan and directly appoints two members on the PCB board of governors — and one of them is elected as the chairman. The Pakistan Peoples Party, headed by Asif Ali Zardari, is Sharif’s coalition partner in the government and over recent weeks has demanded that its candidate should get be the new PCB chairman because it holds the sports ministry in the coalition. Salaam everyone! I don’t want to be a bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. Such instability and uncertainty is not good for PCB. Under the circumstances I am not a candidate for Chairmanship of PCB. Good luck to a

PML-N, PPP at loggerheads over PCB chief's post

[ad_1] In December last year, the government dismissed Ramiz Raja and formed a management committee headed by Najam Sethi to take over the affairs of the PCB.  The committee was given 120 days to restore regional and departmental cricket and the 2014 constitution. It was also given the task of forming a 10-member governing board and appointing a chairman. Its term was to be completed on April 21. However, things seemed to be simple at first. However, the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Affairs objected to the appointment of the Election Commissioner. Then only a two to four-week summary was sent to the Prime Minister's House to extend the committee's tenure.  Minister Ehsan ur Rehman Mazari belongs to PPP. Interestingly, the committee got a two-month extension, likely ending on June 22. Zaka Ashraf was PCB's chairman in the previous regime of PPP. He remained the head and was removed from office after the change of government; later, he had a legal battle with Naja

Pakistan cricketers seek overhaul of central contracts

Image
[ad_1] The central contracts of Pakistan cricketers for the 2022-23 period expired on June 30th. There were talks of a possible one-month extension, but so far, no agreement has been signed. During this time, the players have raised various concerns that they wish to discuss with Zaka Ashraf, the head of the PCB management committee. One significant issue the players are raising is their remuneration. The previous management committee had suggested a 45% increase, but the players are seeking more than just a raise. They believe that a complete overhaul of their contracts is necessary because they feel they are being underpaid compared to cricketers from other countries. According to a recent research report, even players like Babar Azam, ranked as the number one ODI batter, do not rank among the top 10 highest-earning cricketers globally. The players want the PCB to conduct its own research and establish a system that ensures their financial security in the future. Another d

[ad_1] The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has shared its official stance on the ODI World Cup 2023 schedule unveiled by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday. The PCB spokesperson emphasized that the team's participation in the tournament is subject to government clearance. “The board requires the Government of Pakistan’s clearance for any tour to India, including the match venues,” PCB spokesperson said. “We are liaising with our government for guidance, and as soon as we hear something from them, we will update the Event Authority [ICC]. This position is consistent to what we had told the ICC a couple of weeks ago when they shared with us the draft schedule and sought our feedback.” While the PCB has initiated the process of involving the government to obtain the necessary permissions for their participation in the tournament, they may also engage with the ICC regarding the venues, not limited to the match against the hosts, India, as reported by the Indian
