Do you know presence of healthy cells enables cancer to resist treatment? Study finds - Times of India

Image
[ad_1] WASHINGTON: Chemotherapy becomes less effective as healthy cells encourage cancer cells to grow more slowly, according to two studies from UCL and Yale. Researchers used mini-tumours' and the newest single-cell analysis technology to begin to unravel the conundrum of why healthy cells in a patient's colon cancer tumour may contribute to poor outcomes in the two experiments, which were funded by Cancer Research UK and published in Cell. Bowel cancer kills over 900,000 people a year and is the second highest cause of cancer mortality worldwide. In the UK, it accounts for 10% of all cancer deaths. In the first study, UCL researchers used the latest single-cell analysis technologies to measure how 1,107 mini-tumours derived from mice responded to changes in both their genes and their environment1. Analysis revealed that bowel cancer cells can exist in two major states, fast-growing or slow-growing, and that healthy cells can push bowel cancer cells towards the slow-g

WHO recommends not using Indian cough syrups linked to deaths - SUCH TV

[ad_1] The World Health Organisation has said that two cough syrups made by India's Marion Biotech should not be used for children, after the products were linked to 19 deaths in Uzbekistan. Analysis by Uzbekistan's health ministry showed the syrups, Ambronol and DOK-1 Max, contained a toxic substance, ethylene glycol. The syrups were administered in doses higher than the standard for children, either by their parents, who mistook it for an anti-cold remedy or on the advice of pharmacists, according to the analysis. So far, Marion has not provided guarantees to WHO on the safety and quality of these products, the agency said. Shortly after the series of deaths were reported in Uzbekistan, India's health ministry suspended production at the company. According to a recent report, India's Uttar Pradesh state has suspended Marion's production license. Marion did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
