US President Joe Biden announces 2024 re-election campaign - SUCH TV

Image
[ad_1] United States President Joe Biden has officially launched his campaign for re-election in 2024, becoming the Democratic frontrunner in a race that could pit him for a second time against Republican contender Donald Trump. Biden’s announcement in a video on Tuesday came on the fourth anniversary of the start of his first successful presidential bid. A majority of Democrats would back Biden, 80, against a Republican challenger in next year’s election, a recent poll found. But the Democratic president faces some of the lowest approval ratings of his tenure so far, and his age – Biden is currently the oldest person to ever hold the highest US office – has spurred questions about his re-election prospects. Biden, who would be 86 at the end of a second term, is betting his first-term legislative achievements and more than 50 years of experience in Washington will count for more than concerns over his age. He faces a smooth path to winning his party’s nomination with no se

Sound of air strikes echoes in Khartoum as US pushes for longer truce - SUCH TV

[ad_1] The United States and African nations were racing to secure an extension of a ceasefire in Sudan on Thursday, with the Sudanese army saying it had given an initial nod to an African proposal calling for talks even as heavy fighting continued. Hundreds of people have been killed in nearly two weeks of conflict between the army and a rival paramilitary force — the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) — which are locked in a power struggle that threatens to destabilise the wider region. An RSF statement accused the army of attacking its forces on Thursday and spreading “false rumours”, making no reference to the proposal which the army said came from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), an African regional bloc. The sound of airstrikes and anti-aircraft fire could be heard in Khartoum and the nearby cities of Omdurman and Bahri, witnesses and Reuters journalists said. The existing three-day ceasefire brought about a lull in fighting, without completely halting i

How Tesla's price cuts could spur an EV pricing war

[ad_1] A Tesla showroom is seen in the City Center shopping center on January 17, 2023 in Washington, DC. Anna Moneymaker | Getty Images DETROIT — Tesla vehicles in the U.S. are seeing significant price cuts, and that's proving to be a double-edged sword for the electric carmaker and the greater automotive industry. Tesla earlier this month slashed prices of its new cars by as much as 20% , making the vehicles more affordable and likely eligible for federal tax credits . But it also tanks the resale values of cars for current owners and is sending ripple effects through the auto industry. related investing news CEO Elon Musk hasn't directly addressed the price cuts, which are counterintuitive to his claims that the company's cars will be appreciating assets — a rarity for the market aside from classics and collectible vehicles. Analysts say the price cuts suggest Tesla is prioritizing sales over profits, potentially signaling a demand problem. "There's deman

US President Joe Biden has stressed that Australia, which joined the alliance with Washington and London known as AUKUS 18 months ago, will not be getting nuclear weapons. Sam Yeh | Afp | Getty Images The United States unveiled a Taiwan weapons aid package worth up to $345 million on Friday, a move likely to anger China even as the Biden administration declined to publicly provide details on the arms in the package. Congress authorized up to $1 billion worth of Presidential Drawdown Authority weapons aid for Taiwan, which strongly rejects Chinese sovereignty claims, in the 2023 budget. Beijing has repeatedly demanded the United States, Taiwan's most important arms supplier, halt the sale of weapons to the island. In recent weeks, four sources told Reuters the package was expected to include four unarmed MQ-9A reconnaissance drones, but noted their inclusion could fall through as officials work through details on removing some of the advanced equipment from the drones that only the U.S. Air Force is allowed access to.
