Appellate Tribunal NCLAT Sets Aside Order On Zee-Sony Merger

Image
[ad_1] New Delhi: The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has set aside the order of NCLT directing bourses NSE and BSE to reconsider their approval for the Zee-Sony merger. A two-member NCLAT bench has asked NCLT to consider the merger of Zee Entertainment with Culver Max Entertainment (earlier known as Sony Pictures Networks India) afresh, after hearing all the parties. The appellate tribunal order came on hearing the appeal filed by Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) against the order passed by the Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on May 11, 2023. The NCLT had directed NSE and BSE to reconsider their prior approvals for the merger of ZEEL and Culver Max Entertainment. It had also asked the bourses to reassess the non-compete fee under the clause of the merger. The said order was challenged by ZEEL before the appellate tribunal, contending that it was not granted adequate opportunity by the NCLT to present its side and it didn't

Wisconsin is lagging behind other swing states in shoring up election policies following 2020 chaos

Image
[ad_1] Four years ago, Wisconsin arguably was the state where Donald Trump came the closest to overturning the election results. A barrage of lawsuits aimed at invalidating hundreds of thousands of mostly Democratic votes in the crucial battleground sought to take advantage of certain election policies in the state related to absentee ballots that were cast early and by confined or disabled voters, as well as those where election workers completed certain missing information on the envelopes. The effort made its way all the way to the state Supreme Court, then controlled by conservatives, which ruled by one vote against Trump’s bid to overturn the results. And yet, heading into the next presidential election, lawmakers in Wisconsin have done little to prevent a similar scenario from playing out again in the event of a close race. State lawmakers have failed to enact any measures that would serve to clarify the nuances of absentee ballots that Trump, now the presumptive 2024 Rep

[ad_1] Alef Aeronautics' Model A. — Alef Aeronautics  The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has given approval to a California-based company to start flight testing on a fully electric flying car.  According to Business Insider , the automaker named Alef Aeronautics said that they have been given a Special Airworthiness Certification for Model A of the car.  The startup company said that this is the first such approval for a car that is able to fly  — which has been backed by SpaceX. The Model A will cost $300,000. "It allows us to move closer to bringing people an environmentally friendly and faster commute, saving individuals and companies hours each week. This is one small step for planes, one giant step for cars," said Jim Dukhovny, who is the CEO of Alef. Even though the car has been given the approval for flight tests, the FAA restrictions have limited the locations and purpose for which it is permitted to fly. The company plans to produce a flying

ENI earned $500 million after reneging on Pakistan deal: report

[ad_1] A logo of the ENI company is displayed outside its office in Milan. — AFP/File As international prices spiked and Pakistan faced an energy crisis, one of its long-term liquified natural gas (LNG) suppliers ENI earned $500 million by partially backtracking on contractual obligations and selling the cargoes to Turkey instead.  The Italian company has a 15-year deal with Pakistan under which it is required to supply Pakistan with one LNG cargo a month from 2017 to 2032. However, ENI failed to deliver a number of scheduled cargoes between late 2021 and early 2023, Bloomberg reported citing analysis by investigative non-profit Sourcematerial and Italian environmental group Recommon. In a joint report, the non-profits said the LNG cargoes meant for Pakistan were delivered to Turkey instead. ENI, which had cited an event of force majeure, had told Reuters earlier this year that the company "did not take advantage or benefit in any way from these defaults and applied

NEW YORK -- The Las Vegas Aces will be without two starters, point guard Chelsea Gray and center Kiah Stokes , for Wednesday's Game 4 of the WNBA Finals vs. the New York Liberty . Both have foot injuries and were wearing boots at Tuesday's Aces practice at Barclays Center. Gray was on a scooter and Stokes on crutches. Neither specified exactly what the injuries were. Gray hurt her left foot in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 87-73 Game 3 loss. Stokes was less certain when her injury occurred, saying she woke up after the game with pain in her right foot and calling it "kind of a WTF moment." Aces coach Becky Hammon did not say both players are ruled out of a potential Game 5 back in Las Vegas on Friday. That d

Robbie Knievel, daredevil son of icon, dies at 60

[ad_1] LAS VEGAS -- Robbie Knievel, an American stunt performer who set records with daredevil motorcycle jumps following the tire tracks of his thrill-seeking father -- including at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in 1989 and a Grand Canyon chasm a decade later -- has died in Nevada, his brother said. He was 60. Robbie Knievel died of pancreatic cancer early Friday at a hospice in Reno, Kelly Knievel said. "Daredevils don't live easy lives," Kelly Knievel told The Associated Press. "He was a great daredevil. People don't really understand how scary it is, what my brother did." As a boy, Robbie Knievel began on his bicycle to emulate his famous father, Evel Knievel, who died in 2007 in Clearwater, Florida. But where Evel Knievel famously almost died from injuries when he crashed his Harley-Davidson during a jump over the Caesars Palace fountains in Las Vegas in 1967, Robbie completed the jump in 1989 using a specially designed Honda. [ad_1] Police were also on alert after pro-Palestinian activists indicated that they would ignore a police order and go ahead with a rally planned to coincide with the Holocaust commemorations. Italy’s Jewish community has complained that such protests have become occasions for the memory of the Holocaust to be co-opted by anti-Israel forces and used against Jews. In Bosnia-Herzegovina, Jews and Muslims from the country and from abroad  gathered in Srebrenica to jointly observe Holocaust Remembrance Day,  and to promote compassion and dialogue amid  the Israel-Hamas war . It was organized by the center preserving the memory of Europe’s only acknowledged genocide since the Holocaust —  the massacre  in 1995 of more than 8,000 Muslim Bosniaks in Srebrenica in Bosnia’s interethnic war. The event underscored the message that the two communities share the experience of persecution and must stay united in their commitment to peace. [ad_1] King Charles, Queen Camilla to visit Australia   King Charles and Queen Camilla are trying to make amends. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that King Charles and Queen Camilla are considering a trip to Australia in the upcoming year, since His Majesty is scheduled to attend the Commonwealth Summit in October in Samoa. On social media, ITV 's royal editor Chris Ship conjectured that the monarchs would combine a visit to Australia with their journey to the Pacific for the October 21, 2024, Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The Sydney-based journal was informed by an unidentified former diplomat that "King Charles is planning to visit Australia and New Zealand in October." Should the trip go, it will be Charles's first visit to the antipodean countries since 2018 and his first since ascending to the throne. Charles and Camilla made their first trip to the Commonwealth as monarchs in October of this year when they visited Kenya. The roy
