Scottie Scheffler finishes strong in final round as chaotic PGA Championship comes to close

Image
[ad_1] A wild and chaotic week for Scottie Scheffler in Louisville came to an end on Sunday, and he finished his final round on a high note despite all that happened leading up to it.  Scheffler found himself out of contention after shooting 73 on Saturday , 2-over par to drop him down the standings. But Scheffler roared back on Sunday with a 6-under 65 final round, vaulting him up 16 spots to leave him tied for eighth with Billy Horschel, Justin Thomas and Robert MacIntyre when all was said and done.  It was Scheffler’s best round at Valhalla Golf Club, a place filled with controversy for him this weekend after he was arrested outside the course and charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officer directing traffic early Friday morning.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM Scottie Scheffler of the United States walks off the 18th green during the final round of the PGA

Devils coach leaves game early after taking puck to head on bench

[ad_1] There was a scary moment during Thursday's Carolina Hurricanes- New Jersey Devils game, as Devils head coach Lindy Ruff took a puck to the head. Ruff, 63, suffered the injury in the second period and missed the third . With about six-and-a-half minutes to go in the second frame, a member of the Hurricanes looked to be getting the puck out of Carolina's own zone, but it headed right toward the bench, aiming right for Ruff. September 22, 2023. — Reuters Ahead of the Asian Games opening ceremony on Friday, three Indian martial arts competitors from a territory claimed by China were forced to withdraw from the Asian Games in Hangzhou after not gaining approval from the host nation. The three women who were set to compete in wushu, a multidisciplinary martial art originating from China, belonged to Arunachal Pradesh, India, a region claimed almost in full by Beijing as “South Tibet." The Hindustan Times reported that the trio, who were approved to participate in the Hangzhou Asian Games, were unable to download their accreditation cards, which serve as visas to China, on Wednesday as they left for the games with the rest of the squad and coaching staff. Neither the Indian Olympic Association nor the Ministry of External Affairs have commented on the news, AFP reported. The Indian wushu team did not attend the World Universi

‘Beware of us’: Hong Kong carries fencing hopes | The Express Tribune

[ad_1] HONG KONG: Hong Kong is one of the smaller Asian Games teams by population, but when it comes to fencing the city is a regional heavyweight with ambitious medal hopes. Edgar Cheung won gold at the Covid-delayed Tokyo Games two years ago – Hong Kong's first Olympic fencing title and first Olympic gold in any sport in a quarter of a century. It turned Cheung into a celebrity overnight and prompted parents across the Chinese territory of 7.5 million people to rush and sign their children up for fencing classes. Cheung's historic win in the foil competition was a much-needed dose of good news for a city mired in social unrest and pandemic gloom at the time. With more funding and public attention as a result, Cheung and his team-mates now hope to stamp their mark on the Asian Games in Hangzhou when they open on Saturday. Despite a strong record at recent editions, including eight medals in the sport in 2018, Hong Kong is yet to win fencing gold at the Asian Game

Fans seek clarity on Manchester United future | The Express Tribune

Image
[ad_1] MANCHESTER: A leading Manchester United fans' group called on Sunday for clarity on the future of the English giants amid speculation British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe is set to take a minority stake in the club. United's owners, the American Glazer family, announced nearly a year ago that they were exploring "strategic alternatives to enhance the club's growth", with a full sale one of the options. Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani withdrew his attempt to buy the 20-time English champions, a source close to the bid told AFP on Saturday. Ratcliffe was the other frontrunner during several rounds of bidding, but no offer has yet met the £6 billion ($7.2 billion) valuation put on the club by the Glazers. Founder of petrochemicals giant Ineos, Ratcliffe will now settle for a 25 percent stake for around £1.3 billion, the BBC said on Sunday. Ineos will reportedly seek to take control of the sporting side of United's business in retu

With both teams set to compete in their eighth World Cup match, Pakistan are coming after securing a record-breaking win against Sri Lanka, whereas the Men in Blue too, will take on the Green Shirts after dismantling Australia and Afghanistan. Making sense of chaos engulfing Brazil that puts World Cup hopes at risk

Image
[ad_1] Tim Vickery, South America correspondent Jan 8, 2024, 07:00 AM ET As Brazil mourns the great Mario Zagallo, who died on Friday at the age of 92 , the contrast becomes sharper between the days of past glory for the national team and the present-day administrative chaos. The five-time men's World Cup winners have made a stuttering start to their campaign to reach the 2026 tournament. They have lost three of their first six matches including their first-ever home defeat in a qualifier at the hands of neighbours and bitter rivals Argentina , a match which was marred by police clashing with fans . All the while, they have been beset by turmoil at the CBF (Brazil's football federation.) As the old phrase puts it, Brazil is not for beginners, and the recent events need careful explanation. - Stream on ESPN+: LaLiga, Bundesliga, more (U.S.) Wasn't Carlo Ancelotti meant to be coming in as coach? Gareth Bale stuns pro golfers with incredible cart path shot at Pebble Beach Pro-Am | CNN

Image
[ad_1] CNN  —  Few tuning in to watch the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Thursday will have been surprised to learn that former Real Madrid star Gareth Bale is good at golf. After all, the Welshman made no secret of his love for the game throughout a glittering soccer career that he called time on in January. Yet, just how natural the former Tottenham Hotspur and Real forward looks on the fairways has taken many aback after an impressive first round showing on his PGA Tour debut in California. Playing alongside professional partner Joseph Bramlett, Bale carded a seven-under 65 on the notoriously challenging Spyglass Hill course to finish the day five shots behind the Pro-Am’s leading duo, the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes’ owner Tom Dundon and American pro golfer Will Gordon. As a five-time Champions League winner and one of the most decorated players of his generat

How Cristiano Ronaldo could cause Nagasaki prefacture governor Kengo Oishi to resign

[ad_1] Cristiano Ronaldo: Oishi travelled from Nagasaki to Nagai Stadium in Osaka to witness a friendly match between Al-Nassr and PSG Japanese Governor faces backlash for skipping key conference to watch Ronaldo.—Reuters/Goal  Kengo Oishi, the 39-year-old governor of Nagasaki prefecture, is facing potential resignation calls after he skipped a crucial conference to watch a football match featuring Cristiano Ronaldo.  The governor travelled from Nagasaki to Nagai Stadium in Osaka to witness a friendly match between Al-Nassr and PSG on July 25, a decision that has stirred controversy. Oishi defended himself, stating that he paid for the match ticket while his travel and accommodation expenses were covered by the prefecture. Despite his absence at the governors' conference in Yamanashi prefecture, Oishi claims official duties tied to a June trip with Nagasaki assembly speaker Tatsuya Tokunaga necessitated his attention. The conference focused on addressing Japan's decli

Glenn Maxwell scores fastest ODI World Cup hundred - SUCH TV

[ad_1] Glenn Maxwell showed no mercy to the Netherlands bowlers and hit them to all parts of the ground during the 24th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 between Australia and the Netherlands at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, India, on Wednesday. Maxwell scored the fastest hundred in the history of the World Cup as the right-handed batter completed his ton in just 40 balls. The 35-year-old came to bat when the Aussies were 266-4 in 38 overs after they had just lost the wicket of Josh Inglis. Maxwell came in and started hitting the Dutch bowlers and scored 106 runs in total off just 44 deliveries courtesy of 17 boundaries, nine fours and eight sixes. The Dutch bowlers had no answer to the rapid knock by Maxwell and looked helpless as he kept on terrorising them for 10 overs, building a 103-run partnership with his skipper Pat Cummins. The fastest World Cup century's record belonged to South Africa's Aidan Markram who scored a ton on 49 balls against Sri Lanka in the

The USWNT one-cap club: Stories of those who got just one shot with the national team

Image
[ad_1] Of the small number of women who have represented the United States on the international level, even fewer make up the USWNT's one-cap club.  Brad Smith/USSF/Getty Images The cross from Aly Wagner came in and the ball bounced once, twice and, just before it took a third hop, Caroline Putz tucked it into the near post. The goal was her first for the U.S. women's national team , scored just minutes into her international debut in a 4-1 win over Italy. After that goal, nothing. No second goal. No additional minutes. Not even another call-up. Her career with the USWNT was over before she knew it. Of the millions of soccer players around the world, few ever represent their country, and even fewer score. Putz, whose last name is now Leith, did both in the span of four minutes. With her one and only cap, she is also part of an even smaller group of soccer players: the one-cap club. As of three weeks before the 2023 Women's World Cup begins, 251 women have suited up fo

Baltimore Ravens fans have been going at former linebacker Patrick Queen after his introductory comments as a new member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, their AFC North rival.  Queen stood in front of Pittsburgh media on Friday where he said he can’t wait to embrace a "villain" role when it comes time to face the Ravens again, which the Steelers will do twice every season.  "It’s going to be weird, but I want to be that villain. I want to be that guy. I’m looking to do some stuff to them," Queen said. CL
